HOW TO MAKE PERFECT CAKES | Tip #1

I bet you can remember attending a party and while eating the cake you scouted the room for the baker. — Why? The cake was perfectly made and delicious. “That’s what a cake should be!”  you  said.

Tip #1 Master One Recipe

You’ve heard the saying, “Jack of all trades master of none.” Simply put, being a master or standing out in something requires attention and time.  Why should we take the time to master one skill at a time? It helps one to go deep, learn, and understand what it is they need to know about that subject or topic. The same applies to working in the kitchen. First, we learned how to boil water and then how to boil an egg. We learned how to hold a knife before cutting.

Practice and Repeat

There’s the belief that practice makes perfect or at least leads to greater good. When we practice, we’re simply building on what we already know. By doing so we’re able to ask questions, think outside the box and possibly diagnose issues and find solutions.

Does it really work? Why? How?

Baking has its own nuisances just like any other trade; and so attention, practice and mastery are required to overcome them. A recipe that performs well in one condition might not do so well in another. A slight change in altitude or temperature can alter the outcome of a recipe. Testing, validating, and mastering one recipe can produce far greater results than having ten recipes and know little to nothing about them.

Think about the simple sponge cake and Easy European Sponge Cake, what do you notice about their ingredients? What about the Christmas tree cake recipe? Do not through away the simple sponge cake and don’t allow the simplicity of the cake to deceive you. It is the basis far too many scrumptious baked goods.

Give yourself a point of reference

Whenever I get the chance, I share the story of my first day in baking class. The lessons learned and recipes gained about a decade and plus years, continue to play major roles in my baking. The foundation don’t change, rather one continues to build on them.

Looking deep into one recipe, learning and understanding it over a course of time, acts as a reference point and it will be useful when you encounter other recipes. The knowledge gained will help you make adjustments when necessary, be creative and spot troubles before they arise or find solutions when troubles go ahead of you.

Your turn
